We invite you to two exciting international PNND events coming up very soon.
We hope that you can attend one – or maybe both of these…

1. Parliamentary Roundtable on Achieving a Nuclear Weapons-Free World, 1 April 2011

This PNND roundtable will focus on implementation of the disarmament steps agreed at the 2010 Non-Proliferation Treaty Review Conference, and will include discussion on diplomatic initiatives, parliamentary actions and key partnerships/collaborations including with the United Nations Secretary-General, Nobel Peace Laureates, Mayors for Peace and the International Committee of the Red Cross. The roundtable will include guest speakers from these initiatives/partnerships.

The roundtable will be followed by a PNND Council Meeting and dinner to which all PNND members are welcome to attend and at which we will discuss further PNND initiatives and events for 2011-2012. To register contact Alyn Ware.

The roundtable follows immediately after, but is separate from, a NATO PARTNERSHIP FOR PEACE Workshop on the role of parliaments in arms control, disarmament and non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction in Geneva, 30 March - 1 April, co-hosted by the Swiss Federal Department for Foreign Affairs, NATO non-proliferation WMD Centre, Geneva Centre for the Democratic Control of Armed Forces and the Geneva Centre for Security Policy. There are still some places at this conference for parliamentarians from NATO countries and NATO Partnership for Peace countries (Contact NATO P4P Workshop for more information).

April 1 Program:
· 14:30 – 16:45. Parliamentary Roundtable on Achieving a Nuclear-Weapons-Free World
· 17:00 – 18:00. PNND Council Meeting to discuss PNND program for 2011-2012

2. Special PNND lunch event at the 124th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, Panama City, 17 April 2011

PNND will hold a special lunch meeting in Panama City on 17 April during the 124th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union to discuss further implementation of the resolution on nuclear non-proliferation and disarmament adopted at the 120th IPU Assembly.

The lunch, to be co-hosted by Australian House of Representatives Speaker Harry Jenkins and Senator Rosario Green, Chair of Foreign Affairs in the Mexican Senate, and Co-President of PNND will feature guest speaker Ambassador Richard Butler (Chair of the Middle Powers Initiative, former Chair of UNSCOM, former Australian Ambassador to the United Nations) on the topic of Diplomatic and Parliamentary Action to Implement the UN Secretary-General’s Five-Point Disarmament Proposal.

The lunch is open to any parliamentarian attending the IPU 124th Assembly. It will take place on Sunday April 17th, 2011, at the Bahia Cafe - Sheraton Hotel at 1:15pm. For further information or to register for the lunch contact PNND/IPU Special Event.
