Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty

The treaty bans all nuclear weapons tests.

Signed September 1996. Not yet in force; the treaty requires the ratification of the 44 nations that are members of the UN Conference on Disarmament. The U.S. Senate rejected ratification 51 to 48 in October 1999.
