Treaty Between the United States and the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics on the Limitation of Underground Nuclear Weapons Tests (Threshold Test Ban Treaty)
Signed July 3, 1974. The Treaty Between the United States and the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics on Underground Nuclear Explosions for Peaceful Purposes was signed May 28, 1976. The two parties undertook to prohibit, to prevent, and not to carry out any underground nuclear weapon test having a yield exceeding 150 kilotons at any place under its control, and to limit the number its underground nuclear tests to a minimum while continuing negotiations with a view toward achieving a cessation of all underground nuclear weapon tests.
